Hugo Ekitike claims player who left Chelsea for free is one of the best of all-time

Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike is certainly a fan of one former Chelsea star and has made that very obvious.

Down the years, Chelsea have had some terrific players in defence, midfield and attack.

John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba are just a few names who come to mind as they helped the Blues to become a dominant force in the mid-2000s.

You can choose one Chelsea legend to play in Liam Rosenior’s team today. Who are you calling? 🤔

After that period, Chelsea also had the likes of Eden Hazard and Thiago Silva, who helped the club to enjoy plenty of success as well.

Hugo Ekitike names Thiago Silva in his all-time XI

Hailing from France, Ekitike would have watched a lot of Silva during the central defender’s time at Paris Saint-Germain.

And the 23-year-old clearly liked what he saw after naming Silva in an all-time XI. When asked to assemble a defence for his team by Prodirectsoccerfr on TikTok, Ekitike included the Brazilian, Sergio Ramos, Dani Alves and Marcelo.

Silva was not just a success in France. He also did great things in England, playing his part in Chelsea’s 2021 Champions League triumph before leaving on a free transfer.

Would you take Thiago Silva back at the club?

Before his move to Liverpool last summer, Silva’s former club showed interest in Ekitike.

Chelsea had Ekitike on their shortlist but went on to sign Liam Delap and Joao Pedro instead of the Frenchman.

Chelsea should be targeting a player like Thiago Silva instead of Jeremy Jacquet

Silva is the kind of centre-half that Liam Rosenior needs right now. The 41-year-old has experience, leadership qualities and is just an all-round terrific defender.

Instead of going for that kind of profile, though, Chelsea are targeting yet another young centre-half.

Chelsea are pushing to sign Jeremy Jacquet, who is still only 20. They already have Aaron Anselmino and Mamadou Sarr, who are also 20 years of age. Bringing in Jacquet does not really solve anything right now.

He may become a top defender in the future, but Rosenior does not have the time to wait for that to happen.
