Leonard was in Scarborough for a youth basketball event, where he spoke openly about his connection to Toronto and its basketball culture.
“Toronto is still in my heart,” Leonard told the crowd on Saturday, per the CP24 news.
The visit included the unveiling of a new mural honoring his famous 2019 Game 7 buzzer beater against the Philadelphia 76ers. The artwork features one of Leonard's most meaningful messages: “You are stronger than you think.”
Leonard explained that his ties to the city go beyond basketball memories. He shared that his son was born in Toronto and said he often talks about bringing him back to show where that chapter of his life began.
“I just wanted to leave a blueprint out here,” Leonard said. “This won’t be the last thing. I’ll be doing something else out here.”
