With the NBA trade deadline approaching, the Milwaukee Bucks are intensifying their discussions and may move away from a Zach LaVine centered trade.
HoopsHype insider Michael Scotto reports that the team has held exploratory talks with the Sacramento Kings about acquiring Malik Monk and Keon Ellis, signaling a potential shift as Milwaukee aggressively looks to strengthen its roster.
With the Bucks struggling below .500 and firmly outside a secure playoff spot, the front office is aggressively exploring a wide array of potential moves to turn the season around.
The Bucks remain clearly interested in adding Zach LaVine to address their offensive struggles, particularly when Giannis Antetokounmpo is off the floor.
LaVine, who is averaging 19.9 points per game, offers the kind of shot creation that could complement Giannis. However, his sizable contract of around $47.5 million this season presents a major obstacle to completing a deal.
The Bucks could pursue Keon Ellis or Malik Monk instead of Zach Lavine

If the Bucks are reluctant to absorb LaVine’s large contract, targeting a younger wing and bench contributor from the Kings could be a smarter approach. Malik Monk, a dynamic scorer and past Sixth Man of the Year candidate, has surfaced in trade discussions as part of a potential package. His ability to create instant offense off the bench could help address Milwaukee’s ongoing struggles with depth and scoring production.
Another option the Bucks are reportedly exploring is Keon Ellis, a versatile wing who can contribute on both ends of the floor. He could serve as a complementary piece to enhance a trade package or as a more budget-friendly alternative. Adding Ellis would give Milwaukee valuable depth and flexibility, making him a smart addition to the roster.

The Bucks’ front office has been in talks with the Kings about trading Bobby Portis along with a minimum-salary player to acquire Malik Monk and Keon Ellis. Targeting Zach LaVine or another top-tier option, however, would require a much larger package, likely including both Portis and Kyle Kuzma, and possibly draft picks, which the Bucks have very few of.
