Federico Dimarco has emerged as one of Inter Milan’s most important players over the past few weeks. The Italian is now attracting interest from Arsenal, with Manchester United having previously tried to land him.
This comes from today’s TuttoSport, who cover the 28-year-old’s situation.
They start by noting the left wing-back’s importance at the Nerazzurri this season. The report then moves on to say that Arsenal have ‘genuine interest’ in landing him.
Even if the Gunners’ move is still in its infancy, Dimarco’s contract situation is likely behind Arsenal’s attention being caught.
His current deal at the San Siro runs out in 2027, with the player earning €4.2m per season after tax. Inter have no intention of underestimating interest from any club and are now on alert regarding a renewal.
They intend to extend his contract until at least 2029, with Dimarco likely to be handed a wage of around €5.5m per season.
It is unclear how much the player wants to sign up again. The mention of Arsenal interest is possibly, perhaps likely, a way to earn more in the new contract.
The report also goes on to state that Manchester United tried to sign Dimarco during Ruben Amorim’s tenure. The Portuguese coach was the ‘main sponsor’ for the move and the Red Devils have now likely backed away.
Amorim’s system relies heavily on wing-backs, indeed they’re responsible for much of the attacking, and now he’s gone the interest doesn’t make as much sense.
Arsenal likely being used
Arsenal interest being pushed, and the mentioned of Manchester United, looks like an effort from TuttoSport to help hype the player ahead of his renewal.
Besides, they are a Turin-based paper who are closer to Juventus than the Serie A league leaders. It is the perfect way for those around Dimarco to generate a buzz and make sure that the player earns more in a new deal.
