Fiorentina’s season has lurched from disappointment to outright crisis. The Viola, one of Italy’s great historic clubs, find themselves languishing in 18th place in Serie A and locked in a full‑blown relegation battle. Performances at the Artemio Franchi have been flat, goals scarce and belief draining away week after week. Tension has repeatedly spilled over, with players involved in angry confrontations with furious supporters, both inside the stadium and at the training ground.

For a club that has boasted legends like Batistuta, Rui Costa and Baggio, the prospect of dropping into Serie B feels unthinkable – yet that is the grim reality now staring Florence in the face.

In a desperate bid to jolt the season back to life, Fiorentina have turned to the January market and to a familiar name for Liverpool fans: Jack Harrison.

Harrison briefly spent time in Liverpool’s youth system as a young child, around 2002–2003, before switching to Manchester United’s academy for several years and later continuing his development in the United States. His stint at Liverpool, at about seven years old, was short and not a major stage of his pathway, with his reputation ultimately built through his rise in America and subsequent success at Leeds United.

Now, the 29-year-old is set for a fresh start in Serie A, joining Fiorentina on loan from Leeds with an option to buy believed to be around £6 million (€7 million).

A Fiorentina statement read:

“ACF Fiorentina announces that it has purchased, on a temporary basis with the right to buy, the rights to the sports performance of the footballer Jack David Harrison from Leeds United F.C.”

“Harrison, born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, on November 20, 1996, grew up in the Manchester United Youth Sector and, during his career, has worn, in addition to that of Leeds, also the shirts of Middlesbrough, New York City FC and Everton.”

“The new Viola player made 194 appearances between the Premier League and FA Cup, scoring 27 goals and providing 23 assists.”

“Harrison will wear the number 17 shirt.”
