Liverpool fans showed their frustration following their recent draw against Burnley
Arne Slot has addressed the ‘frustration’ felt from fans following Liverpool’s latest disappointing result in the Premier League.
The reigning champions are now 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal, who are once again pulling away from second-place Manchester City as well. Liverpool’s last win came on December 27th when they beat basement side Wolves 2-1.
The Reds remain fourth in the table with 36 points on the board, just one above rivals Manchester United.
Arne Slot backed by FSG amid latest Liverpool fan reaction
Boos rang out around Anfield following the draw against Burnley. Despite being unbeaten in their last 12 games, tensions are high among the fanbase as Liverpool continue to struggle to keep rival teams at bay.
The Reds haven’t lost a game since November but in that time, they have recorded six draws against the likes of Sunderland, Leeds United, and most recently Scott Parker’s Clarets.
Despite the growing frustrations, Slot ‘retains the backing of FSG’. That’s according to James Pearce for The Athletic, who reports that Liverpool ‘have no plans’ to follow a similar path to Manchester United and Chelsea. The two club recently axed managers Ruben Amorim and Enzo Maresca.
The report has stressed that Slot ‘needs to find momentum fast’ if he wants to stop the decline in support from the Liverpool fans.
“There appeared to be no obvious replacement for those demanding change. That’s no longer the case following Xabi Alonso’s exit from Real Madrid,” the report continued.
Arne Slot responds to boos from Liverpool fans
Slot has admitted he understands and empathises with the supporters and why Liverpool were subject to boos following the draw against Burnley.
Speaking after the match, the manager said: “I completely understand the frustration. I have the same and the players definitely have the same frustration as the fans have. If we are not disappointed anymore by having a draw at home against Burnley then something is completely wrong.
“I agree that we should have won this game. There wasn't a lot more I could ask in terms of chance creation. We have a lot of ball possession but I would love us to create more.
“If we play a bit more open you always wonder if the other team can counter-attack you more, which you couldn't. I don't know how many moments we had but we could only score one.”
