**Xabi Alonso is arguably the front-runner to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool if he is sacked, and a new update has now dropped regarding the situation.**
The Spaniard was recently sacked by Real Madrid, having only taken charge there last summer, in what felt like a harsh dismissal with player power coming to the fore.

Alonso is now on the lookout for his next job, and with Slot battling to stay at Liverpool after a hugely disappointing season, it is only natural that the former Reds midfielder is considered a leading option.

The report states that Alonso is “understood to want a rest and will consider any offers from June”, with Liverpool and some of their rivals potentially looking for new managers.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Burnley seemingly proved to be the final straw for some Liverpool fans, who have now lost faith in Slot after too many poor results and performances.
In Alonso, the Reds have a perfect option to replace him, even if they have to wait until the summer, with the Spanish legend loved at Anfield, and more importantly, a talented young coach.
Granted, his time at Madrid didn’t work out, but that says more about them than him, and he won the Bundesliga title and went unbeaten with Bayer Leverkusen in 2023/24, which was an incredible achievement.
The fact that Alonso worked with both Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong there can only be a good thing, too, and while Luis Enrique would be another strong option if he leaves Paris Saint-Germain, his compatriot should be Liverpool’s No.1 target.
