Liverpool’s loan army has endured a bruising few months recently.
From Harvey Elliott to James McConnell and young forward Lewis Koumas, several of Liverpool’s loanees have found this season far from straightforward. Supporters hoped those spells would be launchpads with guaranteed minutes and starring roles.
Instead, much of the conversation has been about stop‑start campaigns, managers turning to more experienced options, and talks of potential returns. James McConnell has already returned to Liverpool while Lewis Koumas could also cut short his loan at Birmingha City.
And now, it appears that Kostas Tsimikas’ time at AS Roma could be coming to an end prematurely as well – if reports from Italy are to be believed.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini has effectively moved on from the Greek international already. The report states bluntly that Tsimikas, who joined in the summer on loan from Liverpool, is now out of the Giallorossi’s sporting project.
Roma have the option to terminate the loan and send him back to the Premier League, and that possibility is being seriously considered. Tsimikas is described among the “wrong signings”, with Gasperini no longer seeing him as part of the rotation at left wing‑back.
Complicating matters further, Roma are currently operating without a reliable senior option on that flank. Angeliño has been sidelined since late September with a serious bout of asthmatic bronchitis, and there is still no clear indication of when he will be available again. Even in that context, Tsimikas has failed to convince his new coach that he can be the long‑term answer.
The capital club have turned their attention to Fiorentina youngster Niccolò Fortini. Roma have already seen an opening bid of around €8m rejected, with La Viola demanding closer to €15m – or at least €12m plus bonuses – for the 19‑year‑old.
It is claimed that if Roma do succeed in signing a new left wing‑back this month, Tsimikas’ early return to Merseyside becomes “a likely scenario”. He has logged only around 600 minutes across all competitions this term.
