Unease has grown among sections of the Liverpool fanbase over the club’s inactivity during the January transfer window, particularly as they watch rivals Manchester City move decisively to strengthen their squad. Pep Guardiola’s side has secured a deal for Marc Guehi in a £20 million move to the Etihad.
FSG’s reluctance to spend significantly – even after record summer outlays of £450 million – has prompted supporter debate, with many questioning whether that standing still makes sense given injuries to Alexander Isak, Giovanni Leoni Conor Bradley.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Burnley clash, Slot discussed the transfer situation. “I think everyone is aligned about the challenges we are facing,” the Dutchman said when pressed on potential signings. “That’s not to say that we are going to act, but everyone is aligned on what we are facing. There’s no-one who has a different opinion about it. But that’s not to say that anything is going to happen.”
But meanwhile, the Liverpool FCW’s side are also not enjoying their best season, currently sitting in last place in the Women’s Super League, and are not being shy in their winter business.
After signing Martha Thomas on loan from Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, Gareth Taylor’s side has been active once again with the club officially announcing the signing of Aurélie Csillag from SC Freiburg, subject to international clearance.
The 22-year-old forward arrives after an impressive start to life in Germany’s Frauen-Bundesliga, where she registered four goals in 14 appearances following her summer move from FC Basel.
Csillag stands 1.73m tall and operates primarily as a centre-forward. She began her career at FC Blue Stars Zurich before joining Grasshopper Club Zurich in 2020, making her senior breakthrough before a two-year spell at Basel from February 2023. Csillag has earned 12 caps for Switzerland’s senior national team, scoring her first international goal in a recent friendly against Wales in December 2025.
Speaking on the move, the 22-year-old said:
“When I was a little child, I always wanted to play in the Super League. And then when I heard from Liverpool, it was a nice city, a nice club, a lot of tradition and history, I didn’t have any doubts to join this winter.
“The training centre is amazing. I’ve never seen a training centre in a women’s club like this. I was very, very surprised and very happy that I could see this and join this.”
“I’m looking forward to playing against the big clubs,” she added. “For me, it’s the best league in the world.
“It’s a big chance for me to show what I can do on the pitch in this league.”
