Man City manager Pep Guardiola says his “team will play better” once Rodri rediscovers his best form.
The Spanish international has struggled with injuries since rupturing his ACL in September last year, and Guardiola claims patience is needed for Rodri to return to his top level:
“Rodri will play better and then everyone will play better when the team will play better. Of course, he comes from 18 months out; it’s normal that you need the time.”

“It’s a positive that he played 90 minutes [against Man Utd] and played good. Of course, there are setbacks. But his personality to go there, of course, is necessary.”
Rodri did struggle in the Manchester derby
While Guardiola insisted that the 29-year-old played well at the weekend, others would disagree with that statement.
Rodri was one of many players who struggled to produce their best against United at Old Trafford, and even Guardiola admitted that his side were very much second best.
Most would say that the Cityzens were lucky to only lose 2-0. Not only did Gianluigi Donnarumma make several excellent saves, but VAR saved Guardiola’s men on three separate occasions as goals were ruled out for offside.
Where does this leave Man City in the title race?
The defeat in the derby could have proven terminal for the club’s hopes of finishing top of the table, but Arsenal failed to capitalise fully on City’s setback.
They were held by Nottingham Forest, which means the gap between the two sides is seven points. The advantage is still sizeable but not insurmountable.
For that reason, fans will be hoping that Rodri (and several of his teammates) can find their top form soon, or there will be no chance of catching the Gunners.
