Legendary Spanish footballer (soccer player) Gerard Piqué suggested experimenting with NBA rules, including 3-on-3 play and 10-point shots, to make the game even more exciting.
While NBA viewership has fluctuated in recent seasons, there have been quiet discussions about ways to potentially improve the game.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has admitted he is a fan of 10-minute quarters, while others have floated ideas such as a four-point line.
Legendary FC Barcelona and Spanish national team footballer Gerard Piqué went further in his suggestions.
"Why don't we try to change other sports too, like basketball? It's true that the NBA is entertaining, but you can also change the rules. You could play 3-on-3, add 10-point shots, in addition to 2-point and 3-point shots. And that's not all," the former centre-back told Repubblica.
3-on-3 basketball already exists under FIBA rules and is an Olympic sport.
However, the proposed idea of a 10-point attempt is a long shot.
In 2024, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) introduced a four-point line positioned 27 feet (8.22 meters) from the rim.
For comparison, the NBA's three-point line sits at 22 feet (6.7 meters) in the corners and 23 feet, 9 inches (7.24 meters) elsewhere.

The long-range shooting abilities of players like Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, and Trae Young -- who can pull up "from the logo" -- have fueled these discussions.
However, such changes could turn basketball into a 3-point and 4-point shootout, a trend already hinted at in today's high-scoring NBA games.
Now 38, Piqué, meanwhile, is considered one of the greatest defenders of his generation.
He is also one of the most decorated footballers of all time, with 31 major club titles, including nine La Liga trophies and three UEFA Champions League titles, as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012 with Spain.
