The Chelsea striker has garnered interest from across Europe
Celtic and Derby County have been provided with an update on a transfer target currently with Chelsea.
The Hoops are seeking for reinforcement in the striker area of the pitch and one player who’s been mention is David Datro Fofana. He has spent time out on loan from Chelsea at clubs like Burnley and his most recent stint has taken him to Turkey with Fatih Karagumruk, after reportedly turning down a chance to join Celtic on last summer’s deadline day.
A move to the English Championship with Charlton Athletic then collapsed but it’s now claimed the Premiership champions, alongside, Derby County, could move for him this January. There’s been an update on the situation too as Chelsea have opted to recall him from a loan spell where he’s netted eight times as interest across Europe mounts.

David Datro Fofana transfer latest
BBC journalist, Nizaar Kinsella, says Chelsea have recalled him amid the rising interest in the striker’s services. He said on X: “Exclusive: understand David Datro Fofana had been recalled from his loan spell in Turkey. There is significant interest in England and Europe over a permanent move for the striker.”
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano said on the situation: “Chelsea recall David Datro Fofana from loan as he’s set for new move in the upcoming days/weeks. CFC and Fofana’s camp working on a permanent exit.”
Upon signing him from Molde in Norway, Chelsea described the forward: “Chelsea Football Club has finalised the transfer of David Datro Fofana from Norwegian champions Molde, with the young striker signing a contract until 2029 with an option to extend for a further year. The Ivorian enjoyed a breakthrough 2022 in Norway, showing himself to be a prolific goalscorer and one of European football’s most promising young talents. The Ivorian’s combination of pace, skill and strength make him a versatile striker, capable of scoring goals but especially adept at holding up the ball and retaining possession under pressure.
Why David Datro Fofana originally signed for Chelsea
Fofana said in 2023 of adapting to life at Chelsea after an outing at U21s level: “I am so happy to be playing football, that is what I love to do and every time I step onto the pitch, is another chance for me to improve and get better as a player,.
“Even though I have not played with some of the players in this team, I was comfortable and felt a strong bond with the players. I think this is why we were able to win because I trusted them, and they trusted me. I am a very physical player and I enjoy that part of the game as I always want to compete, but I want to improve my technique.
“That is what will help me get to the top. Coming to England it is very different how the game is played here, and I like it. I want to adapt quickly and keep playing games, as that is how I will get better.”
