Thunder vs. Cavaliers: The matchup

The Thunder haven’t been the same untouchable version of themselves that started the season with a 24-1 record through 25 games, but they are still the NBA’s best team with perhaps the league’s best roster. Oklahoma City is 11-7 since that hot start and comes off a rare loss Saturday night in Miami (122-120) in the second game of their current four-game road trip. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 39 points in that losing effort to the Heat, who shot just 37% in the game but attempted 111 shots to OKC’s 77.

The Cavaliers have scrapped their way to a 24-19 mark, which is good for second in the NBA’s Central Division behind the Detroit Pistons. Cleveland was 12 games better through its first 43 contests last season (36-7) on its way to earning the East’s No. 1 seed, but the wins are coming. Cleveland is 6-3 over its past nine games and comes off back-to-back wins over the Philadelphia 76ers, with Mitchell leading a 133-107 win with 35 points on Wednesday, followed by a 117-115 win on Friday fueled by Jaylon Tyson’s 39 points.
