Kristaps Porzingis just got more bad injury news and it could affect his trade value

[Kristaps Porzingis’](https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2026/01/jaylen-brown-talks-kristaps-porzingis-ahead-of-celtics-reunion.html) absence with his new team in Atlanta will extend at least one more week, the Hawks announced on Monday morning. Porzingis has missed the past five games with left Achilles tendinitis and will be re-evaluated in one week.

Porzingis declined to talk to reporters after the [Celtics beat the Hawks](https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2026/01/celtics-have-unique-opportunity-after-east-rival-gets-booed-off-own-court.html) on Saturday night, but he exchanged pleasantries with several former teammates after the game.

The former Celtics big man has only played 17 games this season, missing several games due to illness earlier this season before dealing with the Achilles issue in the past month. He has played well when healthy, averaging 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game on the year but has moved to a bench role due to his limited availability.

Boston dealt Porzingis away last June in a three-team trade with the Hawks and Nets as part of a salary dump to get the team under the second apron. However, Porzingis still remains the subject of trade rumors just months later amid a disappointing season for the Hawks. Atlanta is 20-24 and sits in the No. 10 seed in the East.

They have already traded away former All-Star Trae Young to the Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. Porzingis is also a potential trade chip for Atlanta due to his $30 million expiring contract if they opt to move in a younger direction or try to make a big splash at the deadline. Zach Lowe of The Ringer has mentioned the Hawks as a potential suitor for Giannis Antetokounmpo if the Bucks big man becomes available.

The Celtics face the Hawks again in Boston on Jan. 28, but it remains an open question whether Porzingis will be back on the court again for Atlanta at that point.
