Liverpool extended their unbeaten run to 12 games with a frustrating 1-1 Premier League draw at home to Burnley on Saturday, leaving their lead in fourth place trimmed to just one point.
The Premier League champions will aim to move closer to automatic Champions League qualification when they visit Ligue 1 side Marseille on Wednesday night.
Even a draw would leave the Reds in a strong position ahead of their final group-stage game at home to Qarabag. While Slot fielded a strong lineup against Burnley, rotation remains an option.
The winter transfer window is closing in just under two weeks. Liverpool have been quiet so far, signing defender Mor Talla Ndiaye from Amitie FC and letting James Norris join Shelbourne.
They also missed out on Marc Guehi, whose last-minute transfer to the Reds collapsed last summer. Crystal Palace defender has now joined Manchester City in a £30m deal.
Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain under head coach Arne Slot, with reports linking the 28-year-old to a loan move back to Juventus.
The Italy international has racked up 22 appearances this season but has largely been a bit-part player, featuring in eight games of Liverpool’s current 12-match unbeaten run.
Chiesa’s limited impact has raised questions over his long-term role, especially as doubts persist over Mohamed Salah’s future. Liverpool also missed out on Antoine Semenyo in January, with the Bournemouth forward joining Manchester City for £65 million this January.
Liverpool’s position on Chiesa remains clear; he is still considered an important part of Arne Slot’s squad. According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, the Italian is likely to leave the club at the end of the current season.
He wrote: “Reinforcements on the right would be a priority then, especially if, as seems likely given he barely plays, Federico Chiesa departs after the end of the campaign.”
Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus in the summer of 2024 for an initial £12.5million and won the Premier League title in his debut season.
