Here is a roundup of the top Liverpool news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Ousmane Diomande, Alessandro Bastoni and Nico Schlotterbeck that you may have missed…
There have been some reports in the media which have now claimed that Liverpool have switched their focus to Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni after losing out on Manchester City bound Marc Guehi.
LIVERPOOL looked set to sign the England defender last summer before Crystal Palace pulled the plug on a Deadline Day move, and it was believed that they would make a move at the end of the season when his current deal ran out at Palace.
But Man City did not wnat to wait until the end of the season and instead made an offer to Palace for £30 million in a bid to seal a deal for Guehi this January, and the England star has agreed that move to City.
Reports now claim that Arne Slot is targeting Inter Milan’s Bastoni as the alternative for Guehi and are reportedly ready to meet the £65 million asking price in a bid to shore up that defence.
Virgil Van Dijk has looked very shaky this season, nothing like himself, while Ibrihim Konate has also looked very unsteady in that defence, which has led to reports that he will leave for free at the end of the season.
IcFootballnews says…
Bastoni is a very good defender, but he would need time to adapt to the Premier League, so he will not make the immediate impact that Arne Slot would probably need.
The best option should have been Guehi, now the Reds will have to move for their back-up options, which is more of a risk to take
VAN DIJK REPLACEMENT LINED UP
Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck is a reportedly a player that Liverpool are very much interested in signing as along-term replacement for the ageing Virgil Van Dijk, it has been claimed.
Van Dijk has been one of the main reasons why Liverpool have been so defensively good over the past few years, why they have won the Champions League and Premier League titles, and is a real leader in that back-line.
However – he has not looked like the dominant defender that can handle any striker this season, and the fact that he turns 35 later this year means that Liverpool are keeping a close eye out for his immediate replacement.
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi was the number one target for LIVERPOOL, but Manchester City made the shock decision to offer money this transfer window, rather than wait until the end of the campaign, and get the England star for £30 million.
Now that he is heading to City, TEAMtalk are now reporting that Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck are being considered as alternatives.
The big German star was on the radar of Liverpool a few transfer windows ago when Jurgen Klopp was in charge, but one he left, interest in the Dortmund star wavered and switch to Guehi.
IcFootballnews Says..
There will be some big changes in Liverpool at the end of the season, some more players leaving, some new faces coming in, but improving that back-line should be the priority for Arne Slot.
Van Dijk is still the best defender at LIVERPOOL, probably has a few more seasons in him, so adding Schlotterbeck now to learn from the Dutchman and then take over could be a very good idea.
The big German is ready for that next step in his career, and at a side like Liverpool, he could really thrive.
DIOMANDE WANTED?
LIVERPOOL are reportedly now looking at Ousmane Diomande as an alternative to Marc Guehi after Manchester City made their moves this January window to steal the Crystal Palace defender from the Reds.
Reports claim that Arne Slot is targeting Diomande as a possible alternative to Guehi, who recently played at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with Ivory Coast and has been impressive for his current club Sporting Lisbon.
Diomande has been attracting all sorts of interest over the past few months, with many reports suggesting that Arsenal and Manchester United are both interested in a potential deal for the £75 million star.
IcFootballnews says…
LIVERPOOL should have made a move for Guehi, he may have preferred the move to Anfield over City, but they waited and instead missed out on a player that could have really improved that back-line.
Diomande is a quality centre-back that is impressing over in the Portuguese League, so to come to the Premier League with and play at one of the biggest clubs in world football would be a massive step up.
He would need time to adapt to England, he would be a risky signing, but a solid one
