Liverpool team news ahead of the Champions League clash against Marseille.
Liverpool turn their attention to the Champions League when they travel to Marseille on Wednesday.
But despite their domestic troubles, Liverpool have been decent in Europe on the whole. They are ninth in the Champions League table, having beaten last season’s finalists Inter Milan 1-0 last time out. A top-eight finish guarantees qualification into the last 16 and Arne Slot will be desperate to avoid the play-off stage.
Marseille are 16th in the European standings and third in Ligue 1, having earned a 5-2 triumph over Angers last time out. Les Phocéens, whose head coach is ex-Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, are dangerous as they displayed, having proving victorious against Newcastle United earlier in the campaign.
The Stade Vélodrome is a raucous ground that Liverpool will have to be prepared for as Marseille also look to bolster their chances of moving into the next stage of the Champions League.
Ahead of the clash, here’s a look at the early team news for both sides.
Marseille team news
Benjamin Pavard - doubt
The centre-back was absent against Angers because of a minor issue. Der Zerbi was not too concerned about Pavard’s injury so he could return.
Liverpool team news
Conor Bradley - out
The right-back will miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury at Arsenal earlier this month.
Giovanni Leoni - out
The centre-half continues his rehab from an ACL injury. Leoni was taken out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad after his injury blow.
Alexander Isak - out
The striker is recovering from a broken leg and isn’t expected to feature for a couple of months.
Calvin Ramsay - out
The defender has been on the bench in the past eight matches. However, Ramsay has not been registered in Liverpool’s UEFA squad so will not travel.
Jayden Danns - out
The striker is working his way back from a hamstring injury. Slot’s update before the Barnsley FA Cup win suggested that Danns still is a few weeks away from being available.
Stefan Bajcetic - out
The midfielder has not made a single appearance this campaign as he recovers from hamstring surgery he had in last June.
Mo Salah - doubt
Salah has missed Liverpool’s previous seven games as he represented Egypt at the African Cup of Nations. The Pharaohs finished fourth in the tournament and now Salah will return to Merseyside. However, it remains to be seen whether Slot will give Salah some time to recuperate. The Liverpool boss said he had been in contact with Salah before the penalty shootout loss to Nigeria in the third-place play-off.
