Arne Slot is living close to the edge at Liverpool having recorded a fourth successive Premier League draw on Saturday.
The Reds failed to beat Burnley at Anfield as they made an unwanted slice of Premier League history.
Having already faced all three newly-promoted teams on home turf this season, Liverpool have not beaten a single one. That’s a first since 1981 and that has tipped some fans over the edge.

Most are now in agreement that Slot should not be in charge for too much longer, with Xabi Alonso’s recent availability marking him out as a natural successor. In some ways, the Dutchman has done well to hold on for so long having lost nine out of 12 matches across September, October and November.
But despite Liverpool’s patience with Slot, TalkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has slammed the Reds for taking part in a perceived ‘sack culture.’ Unfortunately for the Scottish football legend, he could not be more wrong.
Ally McCoist thinks Arne Slot should be given more time
In an ideal world, nobody at Liverpool would want Slot to lose his job. The Reds are known for giving managers more time than some of their rivals and that should have been especially true for a title-winning boss such as the current incumbent.
Nevertheless, McCoist pointed the finger at Liverpool for being drawn into a ‘crazy sack culture’ if they decide to part ways with Slot.

“It’s where we are in this day and age, it’s a sack and remove culture from every team, it doesn’t matter who you are,” he said. “You’re not getting results, let’s sack the manager. It’s a sack culture gone crazy.
“Arne Slot has deservedly won the league last year by a country mile with best team in the league. Yes, things haven’t gone to plan at this moment time but they’re still in the Champions League places, they’ve got Brighton at home in the cup and they’re still in the Champions League.
“I think the Liverpool fans who quite rightly are judged as the best fans in the world will look at the situation, assess the situation, and say ‘come on, let’s give the guy time, he’s won us the title, we’re not going to win the title this time, but there’s no need to press panic buttons’.”
Will Xabi Alonso be Liverpool manager by the start of the 2026/27 season?
If no, where will he be instead?

“Of course Alonso’s situation, leaving Real Madrid, there’ll be voices within Liverpool fans saying ‘let’s go get Alonso’, but I don’t think it should be done.”
McCoist could not be more wrong on Liverpool and Slot
Although McCoist has a wider point about sack culture in modern-day football, Liverpool are hardly the right club to use as an example of this.
The Reds have had only seven managers since the turn of the century and have already stuck by Slot in the face of some disastrous results and performances.
Besides, while it is all well and good to stand by a manager, to do so in the face of overwhelming evidence that their time is up is bad practice as well.
Slot’s Liverpool have been on the decline for months now – some would say close to one year – and for FSG to keep watching that and do nothing about it would be negligence. There should be more loyalty in football, but at some stage your number is up.
It remains to be seen just how long Liverpool will stand by Slot for, and if silverware is won this season then the board will have a tougher decision to make. But despite protests from the likes of McCoist, it feels like they will do the right thing and make a change for a better future.
