Chelsea fans split as they debate recalling loanee or signing£60m talent

Rarely do Chelsea fans all agree on something, and that continues to be the case this month during the January transfer window.

The Blues were expected to be quiet in the winter window, but activity is now likely to happen between now and February 2.

There could be exits, with it being reported that Tosin Adarabioyo is a possible candidate to leave Chelsea this month.

As well as that, there could also be at least one arrival at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans divided on Aaron Anselmino and Jeremy Jacquet

If Chelsea do sign someone during the January transfer window, it is likely to be Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet.

Despite already possessing the likes of Aaron Anselmino and Mamadou Sarr, it is being widely reported that Chelsea are keen on signing Jacquet.

With that in mind, The Chelsea Chronicle asked supporters on TalkingPoints whether the club should recall Anselmino from his loan at Borussia Dortmund or sign Jacquet. The responses varied.

One Chelsea fan said: “Recall Aaron, give the kid a good shot.”

Another said: “Don’t know enough about the French kid but assume [Liam] Rosenior must do; however, we have a potentially great emerging talent in Aaron so possibly save your money.”

One supporter posted: “Both of them are fine.”

Another posted: “Sign Jeremy Jacquet, but not more than £45m.”

Another simply said: “Aaron please.”

One more Chelsea supporter said: “I’d take Jacquet because Anselmino will get his chance next season anyway.”

If neither of the above happens, Chelsea fans will continue to watch Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong playing at centre-back. There is also no guarantee that Adarabioyo departs this month either.

What Chelsea had to tell Rennes about Jeremy Jacquet deal

What could prevent Chelsea from signing Jacquet now is the Frenchman’s price tag.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, at one stage, Chelsea had to inform Rennes that they would not be paying over £60m for Jacquet.

It is now thought that Rennes will do business at £60m or a bit lower, but at that price, it is still a very expensive deal to do.

Chelsea should think twice before agreeing to anything, especially when they already have two promising centre-halves in Anselmino and Sarr. That kind of money should only be going on a centre-back who is genuinely going to improve Chelsea instantly. There is little to suggest that Jacquet is capable of doing that.
