On Saturday night the Minnesota Timberwolves squared off against the San Antonio Spurs. It was a tale of two games that wound up in a 126-123 defeat. Along the way though, Anthony Edwards put up a career-high 55 points.
It has been that sort of season for the Timberwolves superstar. Six years into his career, he has taken the most substantial step forward. He is playing the best basketball of his life, but that didn’t stop him from being snubbed of a starting spot in the All-Star Game.
Anthony Edwards left out for Minnesota Timberwolves
For years the Western Conference has been the more difficult side of the NBA. The Minnesota Timberwolves experience that reality any time they look at the standings. Right now, the Western Conference also has significantly more star power. That reality kept Anthony Edwards out of the West’s starting lineup.

Not only was Edwards left out of the starting lineup, but the way in which it played out was also eyebrow raising. With the fan vote carrying 50% of the weight, it made the difference for Victor Wembanyama. Edwards was voted a starter by players and media but didn’t get a spot. The Spurs star was voted a starter by media only, and is a starter.
Edwards has taken his game to another level this season. His 29.6 points per game are a career-high. He is also shooting the best percentage of his career from the floor (.504) and from deep (.418).

Now playing in his fourth-straight All-Star Game, it’s disappointing that this one isn’t materializing as a start. Losing a tie breaker to Wembanyama due to fan voting takes away from just how incredible he has been.
Beyond just the numbers, Edwards has also taken on point guard responsibilities for a Minnesota Timberwolves team that is searching for an answer there. At the new height of his superstardom, Edwards has another bullet point to use as a chip on his shoulder.
