Victor Wembanyama sends bold message to fellow stars after All-Star starter nod

As one of the best players in the world, Wembanyama is thrilled to represent France and San Antonio next month in LA.

Victor Wembanyama welcomed the honor of being selected as a Western Conference starter in this year’s NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles.

Following their 123-110 Monday victory over the Utah Jazz, the San Antonio Spurs superstar is simply ecstatic that he made it to the cut.

"I was glad," he said, "I was happy. I wasn’t sure my name was going to be up there, so it’s great. It’s just another step, and I was really happy to learn that I’m the first French guy to get that.

"I’m proud of this."

Wembanyama joined Stephen Curry (Golden State), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City), Luka Doncic (LA Lakers) and Nikola Jokic (Denver) in the West's first five.

A clip went viral as it caught the reaction of Wembanyama as he and the Spurs watched the official announcement of the All-Star starters.

“It’s good because it made my adrenaline spike before the game," Wembanyama joked.

Health-wise, this season hasn't been an easy one for Wembanyama. He's been in and out of the lineup and often adjusted himself either as a starter or as a reserve.

But he still persevered to lead the Spurs (39-13) to the No. 2 seed of the West. The big man is also averaging solid numbers with 24.8 points, 10.8 boards, 2.9 assists and 2.6 blocks in 29 games, good enough to clinch his second career All-Star nod.

"I want to push the great players of this sport to play just as hard as I will," he said in French (translated). "We'll see how it goes. But if they don't wanna go hard, we'll have to do without them."
