Steve Kerr says Warriors could turn to Kuminga after Jimmy Butler's knee injury

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr says they could turn to Jonathan Kuminga if there’s a need at his position following Jimmy Butler’s knee injury.

Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga was once again out of the team’s lineup in their 135–112 win over the Miami Heat on Monday.

However, the Warriors may need help from Kuminga if they receive bad news regarding Jimmy Butler’s knee injury.

The Warriors star made an untimely exit with 7:41 left in the third quarter. He landed awkwardly after catching the ball and went down in pain, grabbing his right knee. He was immediately escorted out of the game as Warriors fans held their breath inside Chase Center.

After the game, when asked if the team could turn to Kuminga if needed, head coach Steve Kerr bluntly stated that it is absolutely a possibility.

“Sure, absolutely,” Kerr said, confirming that Kuminga is practicing with the team and could be ready to help amid the trade drama.

Kuminga has been out of the rotation since December 18, when he played nine minutes against the Phoenix Suns.

The forward opened the season as a starter and appeared in the first 12 games but has not seen the floor in the Warriors’ last 16 contests. This season, he is averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in around 24 minutes per game.
