Report: Chelsea's chances of signing Barcelona target this month are now fading away

Before the January transfer window closes, Chelsea want to bring in a new central defender.

Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet appears to be at the top of their list, although a move to Stamford Bridge is far from simple.

Rennes are demanding huge money for Jacquet, with their asking price thought to be around the £60m mark.

Jacquet is not the only centre-back who is on Chelsea’s shortlist, though.

Bournemouth set to turn down any offers for Marcos Senesi

Chelsea are also interested in Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi, but that does not look like it is going to be an easy deal either.

According to talkSPORT, Bournemouth plan to reject all bids for Senesi during this transfer window.

If the 28-year-old pushes for a move, that stance could change. However, the same outlet claims that both Barcelona and Juventus are also interested in him, which poses another problem for Chelsea.

Ultimately, the Blues’ chances of signing Senesi this month are decreasing rapidly. Everything is pointing towards them either landing Jacquet or continuing with what they have.

As for Barcelona and Hansi Flick, a deal in the summer always seemed more probable given the club’s financial issues. In June, they will be able to pick Senesi up on a free transfer.

Chelsea should sign Marcos Senesi on a free transfer in the summer

Chelsea should challenge Barcelona if Senesi does reach the end of his contract and the Catalan club target him.

Signing Senesi for nothing would be one of the deals of the summer. The Argentine can bring a lot to this Chelsea team.

He has Premier League experience and is a very good defender. As per FBref, Senesi makes 8.00 clearances and 2.08 blocks per 90 minutes, putting him in the 96th and 99th percentiles for those areas among central defenders.

He knows how to deal with danger and has shown that in English football’s top division. On a free transfer, it is a no-brainer!
