Liverpool are being linked with a Tottenham player who regularly attracts interest.
Tottenham have been handed a fresh concern amid reported interest in one of their players from a Premier League rival. Spurs face a pivotal next few months as they prepare to make some big decisions over playing and coaching personnel.
Thomas Frank is currently fighting for his job amid a torrid run of form, currently in 14th place and with their hopes of landing some sort of European football hanging by a thread.
It’s going to take consistent form for Tottenham to finish inside the top seven this season, and they don’t currently look capable of it, while they are very unlikely to qualify through Europe again, given they would have to win the Champions League. Spurs have been pretty good in that competition, but they don’t look capable of going all the way given the level of competition.
Tottenham are remaining patient with Frank, but if things don’t improve, even if it’s just a case of not improving enough, Spurs will have a big decision to make over Frank’s future in the summer.
But that’s not the only decision they will need to make. With Ange Postecoglou having also struggled with much of this squad, there will likely be a conversation over whether an overhaul is needed, ans that overhaul would potentially be funded by cashing in on some valuable defensive pieces.
If players are going to be lured away from Spurs, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are likely to be atop the list amid reported interest in both players.
Fresh interest in van de Ven
According to TeamTalk, Liverpool are considering trying to sign van de Ven from Spurs this summer as they prepare to lose Ibrahima Konate at the end of his contract this summer. The Reds could yet agree a new deal with Konate, but it does not look likely at this stage given there is a gap between the two parties in negotiations.
Van de Ven is under contract until 2029 and there have been reports that Tottenham would demand as much as £88million to sell the Premier League’s fastest player.
Frank is a big fan of van de Ven’s, placing the defender in his leadership group. He said when making the decision earlier this season: “So I made the decision, but it’s probably pretty obvious he will be. He has impressed me a lot as a player, but also as a communicator on the pitch. And a little bit of show of character. I think he was good today.”
Speaking after the defender scored a brace against Everton earlier this season, Frank said: “I'm very pleased, he's a super important player today,. He was very good defensively, but from the beginning we said, we need more goals from you! We worked hard on it and so did Micky. Now he has three headers with two today. There are still a lot of things I want to improve in the team.”
