Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea will resolve£17m star's'interesting'situation next week

It emerged over the weekend that Chelsea were considering a move to recall Kendry Paez from his loan at Strasbourg. Paez is one of three Chelsea players on loan at the Ligue 1 side.

Along with Paez, Malang Sarr and Mike Penders are currently residing in eastern France. The BlueCo connection also sees Strasbourg boast Ben Chilwell, while Emmanuel Emegha joins Chelsea this summer.

And then of course, Liam Rosenior has switched clubs and has since been replaced by Gary O’Neil in France. Often, a connection that works for both parties and for the players involved in making the switch.

But for 18-year-old Ecuador star Paez, things haven’t gone to plan. This season, he’s been afforded less than 800 minutes of football, mostly under Rosenior, and it was claimed that Paez’s loan could be binned.

Fabrizio Romano delivers further update on Kendry Paez’s future

Now, Fabrizio Romano has a new update on the £17m Chelsea signing. He confirms again that Chelsea are in talks over cancelling his loan spell, but he shares where the South American teenager could end up.

Romano suggests Chelsea are considering keeping Paez in England to allow them to keep a closer eye on his development and get him used to English football. Romano was speaking to DAZN Football this week.

“Kendry Páez’s situation is an interesting one. He isn’t playing much at Strasbourg. So there’s a possibility Chelsea decide to bring him back, loan him to another team in England, to get used to English football.

“This option is being discussed. Keep an eye on this name, because for now nothing has advanced, but it’s a decision Chelsea will make very soon, and I think this situation could be resolved next week,” he said.

Paez could help Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi leave Chelsea

As things stand, Chelsea have six players currently out on loan at foreign clubs. Paez, Penders and Sarr are three of them while the other three include David Datro Fofana, Aaron Anselmino and Nicolas Jackson.

FIFA dictates that clubs can only have six players on loan at foreign sides and so, if Raheem Sterling or Axel Disasi want to leave, then a space is needed. The duo are likely to go on loan, rather than be bought.

Indeed, Sterling is a ‘wildcard’ option for Napoli while Milan have held talks for Disasi. A loan move is likely for either player abroad, and so Paez’s loan being cancelled and joining an English side helps them.

Paez is not the only Chelsea loanee that could see his temporary spell cancelled and altered. Celtic, Derby and Royal Antwerp are hoping Chelsea cancel Fofana’s loan before pursuing the striker permanently.
