Chelsea are ready to bid £43.3m for defender Jeremy Jacquet who is currently playing for Rennes, although the Ligue 1 side are holding out for more than £52 million.
Although Chelsea have other options, the French under-21 defender is top of their list, having made 16 appearances in Ligue 1 this season. Discussions between the two club are now centred on the player’s valuation which Rennes want to maximise given that he is under contract until 2029.
Rennes have a history of developing young players who they then sell to bigger clubs. Their biggest sale to date remains that of Jérémy Doku, who left for Manchester City in the summer of 2023 for 60 million euros. Désiré Doué, meanwhile, was sold to PSG for 50 million euros in 2024.
Jacquet is of Guadeloupean descent, although he was born in the Parisian suburb of Bondy, and has been capped by France at every age group up to under-17 level.
