The latest Man Utd transfer news as they look to add a left winger to their squad this year.

United are in the market for a left winger after they missed out on a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth in the January transfer window. United attempted to sign Semenyo when Ruben Amorim was still the head coach and are expected to step up their interest in left-wing targets after they changed to a 4-3-2-1 formation.

The club want to sign players who are capable of playing in various tactical set-ups and are set to target both a central midfielder and a left winger, regardless of who their next permanent manager is. United do not expect to do any major business this month, but they remain alert to any market opportunities that might arise, just as they were when they tried to sign Semenyo.

United scouting Diomande ahead of transfer

Manchester United are one of several clubs interested in a move for Yan Diomande, but RB Leipzig have made it clear that they have no plans to sell him this month. The 19-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season with seven goals and four assists in 18 appearances for the Bundesliga side, while he also recently starred alongside United star Amad Diallo at the Africa Cup of Nations for Ivory Coast.

Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain are both also credited with interest in the teenage winger, with Fabrizio Romano predicting a 'crazy transfer battle' for his signature in the summer. United have sent scouts to watch Diomande on numerous occasions but will face fierce competition if they want to sign him at the end of the season.

"Yan Diomande is one of the best young wingers in the world, but RB Leipzig insist they want to keep the player," Romano said in his latest YouTube video. "Despite Manchester United sending their scouts to follow Yan Diomande again, despite Tottenham being ready to do business now in January, the intention of Yan Diomande also is to understand the situation on the market, but RB Leipzig want to keep the player in January.

"They insist that Yan Diomande will not leave in this window. They made important money in the summer, they are not looking for money. They sold Sesko, they sold Openda, they sold Xavi Simons. So now, Diomande is staying, that is the message from Leipzig, but in the summer it is going to be a crazy battle. Man United are sending their scouts, Tottenham as well, Paris Saint-Germain are also following closely."
