Premier League leaders Arsenal are targeting success on multiple fronts this season

Arsenal went seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table over the weekend but were unable to capitalise on none of the top four winning, as Mikel Arteta’s side were held to a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.

The point took the Gunners one further clear of Manchester City and Aston Villa, both of whom were defeated by Manchester United and Everton respectively, but successive 0-0 draws in the league will be of concern to Arsenal as they look to secure a first top-flight title in 22 years.

The Gunners remain linked with a host of big-name players this month despite the strong squad built under Arteta and will have the opportunity to add reinforcements where the Spaniard sees fit in the final days of the January window. One Gunners star has revealed he hopes to stay at the club and sign a new deal in another boost to the Gunners manager.

Gabriel Jesus reveals hope for new Gunners contract

Reported by Sky Sports, Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has revealed that he hopes to sign a new deal at the Emirates following his recent return from an 11-month ACL injury. His current contract is due to expire in 2027.

The 28-year-old has been at the club since July 2022 following a £45million move from Man City, though the Brazil international has yet to win his first major trophy at Arsenal. He expressed his desire to change this and secure glory at the Emirates. Jesus has scored 27 goals in 107 appearances for Arsenal despite an injury-hit time in north London and will aim to earn a regular run in the side for the remainder of this campaign as he looks to sign a new deal with the club.

Jesus states contract desire and targets for the season

Jesus said ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan, as relayed by Sky Sports: "My first target is to be healthy. This is my fourth season at Arsenal, and unfortunately I have played maybe one and a half or two seasons, the rest have had injuries. That happens, it has never happened with me before but I don't ask myself why. I just try to be fit.

"My wish is to stay at Arsenal, and then I have a contract. If you ask me, I wanted to extend my contract, extend my stay and win trophies with Arsenal. I came here with a purpose, but obviously the reality can be different.”

Jesus confirmed that discussions with the club over a new deal have not yet taken place, before adding: "I just find myself that I'm so happy that I come back. I had the toughest injury in my life, 11 months. And then just to come back the way I come back, I'm so glad. In a club like Arsenal, big like this, there is no guaranteeing a spot to anyone. So we're all here to help Arsenal to try to win games and at the end of the season win trophies."
