Mohamed Salah is back at the AXA Training Centre and will be assessed on Tuesday morning ahead of potential Liverpool return against Marseille in the Champions League.

Salah hasn’t played for the Reds since the victory over Brighton at Anfield when he was a first-half substitute for Joe Gomez, but after finishing fourth at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt, the third highest goalscorer of all time for the club is now back on Merseyside.

Salah made his comeback to the club’s £50m training base on Tuesday morning and was being checked over by staff at the complex ahead of a decision for the Champions League game in France on Wednesday evening.

The 33-year old missed the previous European fixture after he was left at home following an outburst after the 3-3 draw with Leeds United, where he accused the club of being “thrown under the bus” due to a difficult run that had seen them lose nine in 12 games between September and November.

However, after behind-the-scenes talks with Arne Slot, Salah returned for the win against Brighton before flying out the Morocco for Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, where they were beaten by Nigeria in their third-place playoff after semi-final defeat to Sadio Mane’s Senegal.

Liverpool fly out to Marseille on Tuesday afternoon after an open training session, which is slated for 12.15pm at their training base.
