Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai is unsure over where his future lies despite talks over a new contract. The Hungarian has been a shining light for the Reds since his £60m arrival from RB Leipzig in 2023.

He signed a five-year contract upon his arrival and with Szoboszlai now halfway through that initial deal, Liverpool have turned their attention to extending his stay. The Merseysiders are keen to reward the 25-year-old’s stellar performances with a new contract and have opened talks.

But Liverpool have found it difficult to tie their stars down to extended deals over recent seasons. Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah entered the final few months of their respective contracts, while Trent Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Ibrahima Konate and Andrew Robertson are among those winding down their deals this season. Szoboszlai has confirmed that discussions over a new contract are underway but cannot guarantee an agreement.

He said: "Of course, but there are always talks. You guys in the media make a lot for the people (public) and you keep on going because that's your job but there has been talks but for sure not any decision has been made.

“There is always progress but no decision has been made and I'll just keep on going every week, every training, giving my best for the team, for the fans. Let's see what is going to happen in the future.

“I am happy here but you know how football works and that is something everybody has to take into account.”

Szoboszlai has made 123 appearances for Liverpool and has scored 23 goals - six of which have come this season. Despite his standout performances, Liverpool have endured a difficult season.

Arne Slot’s side could only draw 1-1 with struggling Burnley at the weekend, leaving them fourth and 14 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Speaking about his side’s issues this term, Szoboszlai added: "It is always a little bit the same; for five minutes we really go down and then concede a goal and from there we come back again but it is hard to score against a Premier League team.

“We just have to focus for 90 minutes and maybe not only for 85 and we have to learn that - everybody, each of us – and it cannot happen again. We really let it down and thought the game was won but it's never finished until the referee whistles so that we have to keep in mind.

"It's the first time we played really well against a low block and created a lot of chances, we had loads of guys in the box, we had crosses and shots, we had people creating chances and that is what we have to aim for against Marseille but they don't have a low block, they try to play from the back and we have to be ready for this as well."
