Arsenal are set to temporarily say goodbye to a player who had a big role last season.

Arsenal are set to offload one of their brightest young talents this month, with talks ongoing over a deal. The Gunners have created an ultra-strong squad with competition aplenty in almost every position.

Mikel Arteta’s men are seven points above nearest rival Manchester City, and the depth of their squad has a lot to do with that. Not only have the players coming in like Martin Zubimendi made an impact, but the presence of signings like Noni Madueke have pushed Leandro Trossard and others to improve their performances.

But the downside to having so many options means there is a more complicated path to first team minutes for young players, and Ethan Nwaneri is one of those players. Nwaneri played a big role last season, but he has only made six league appearances so far this term. He has 12 appearances across all competitions.

Nwaneri has a big future, and Arsenal are well aware of that, tying him down to a new contract this season, but at just 18 years of age, it is never going to be easy for him to displace title-calibre players. But Arsenal will also want him to continue his development, and an opportunity for him to get minutes is now said to have arisen.

Marseille are currently third in Ligue 1, seven points behind PSG and eight behind leaders Lens. Nwaneri will be hoping to land regular football in France, or at least to come off the bench regularly.
