Chelsea attempt to cover bad decision with media brief about transfer move

Chelsea have attempted to cover a bad decision they made with a media brief about a transfer move that happened lately.

At least, that is my opinion anyway and I should state here that obviously, this is not factual and just what I think.

Sources: Chelsea hold positive talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet and close on fee agreement!

But, let’s get the story first and I’ll let you all make your own minds up, before delivering my verdict on it.

Chelsea signed Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton in the summer of 2025 on a season long loan deal. He’s barely played and when he did play, he wasn’t that good. The loan got cancelled, he returned to Brighton, so they could send him on loan somewhere else.

Chelsea have told The Athletic (in my opinion) that Buonanotte was always intended to only be at Chelsea for the 1st half of this season, despite the deal being for all of it, as cover while Cole Palmer’s injury issues were being managed.

If you believe that, you’ll believe anything!

Here is what I think happened

Chelsea realised he wasn’t that good, ended the loan, and are now trying to save face and cover themselves for making such a terrible decision to loan him in the first place.

Maye I’m wrong? Maybe I’m being too harsh. Or maybe I’ve just seen this all before and fully know how these things work with PR and all that jazz.

Yeah, probably the latter…

In other news today

Chelsea are trying to sign Rennes centre back Jeremy Jacquet this transfer window. We have all seen how public this has now become, which I never feel is a good thing.

The issue at the moment is not on the player side, but it is agreeing a fee with his club. It seems that at the moment, Rennes are just asking too much for him, at least more than what Chelsea want to pay.

There was even talk yesterday of Chelsea potentially turning to alternative options, with two other names mentioned as being on their shortlist.
