Report: Bayer Leverkusen want £21m Chelsea player before January deadline, he's desperate to go

Bayer Leverkusen are considering a shock move for a Chelsea player before the end of the January window and according to German reports, he’s keen to go.

Chelsea have already waved goodbye to two players this month, with highly-rated prospect Leo Castledine joining Middlesbrough permanently after a sensational loan spell at Huddersfield.

Then, Facundo Buonanotte’s loan was cancelled, and Leeds finally got the Argentine on loan, after the Blues had pipped Leeds to his signature in the summer. Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet is Chelsea’s top target.

A fee of £60m is expected to change hands if a deal for the France U21 star goes through, and it may mean Chelsea will look to sell one or two before the deadline. Leverkusen could give them that chance.

On Saturday, Leverkusen were beaten 1-0 by Hoffenheim, but what was perhaps even more concerning than the defeat itself was a long-term knee injury sustained by former Brentford stopper Mark Flekken.

German magazine Kicker believe Leverkusen have entered the window in order to replace him, and have identified the Premier League as a scouting pool. The German giants have three men on their shortlist.

Man City’s back-up goalkeeper James Trafford, and City’s third-choice star Stefan Ortega, who is German and has huge experience of German football. The other is Chelsea’s second-choice star Filip Jorgensen.

Jorgensen will have given up hope of Chelsea no.1 shirt

Bought for £21m in the summer of 2024 from Villarreal, Jorgensen played 24 times for Chelsea last season and was an integral part of the side that would go on to win the Europa Conference League.

But ultimately, Jorgensen has always been second choice. Only eight of his 24 outings were in the Premier League last season and this time around, he’s been afforded just seven outings in all competitions.

He started in Rosenior’s first game in charge, the 5-1 away win over Charlton, and he will have watched Sanchez’s howlers in the Carabao Cup and yet, Rosenior retained Sanchez in the win over Brentford.

If Jorgensen was ever going to get a chance, it was if Rosenior decided to pick him over Sanchez for Brentford. Rob Green predicted Rosenior would stick with the former Brighton man, and he did so.

Chelsea will end up looking to replace Sanchez in the summer, inevitably, and that leaves Jorgensen with little-to-no chance of breaking into the starting side at Chelsea. If Leverkusen come calling, he must go.
