Wednesday’s Subway Women’s League Cup semi-final against Manchester United represents an opportunity to reach a record 11th League Cup final.
We are the competition’s most successful team with seven titles, most recently won in 2023/24 with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Molineux Stadium.
Discussing the importance of the League Cup, Renée Slegers said in her pre-match press conference on Tuesday: “I repeat myself, every trophy is important for Arsenal and for me as well personally.
“I think we remember that moment, I was with the team when we won the Conti Cup, as it was called a couple of years ago. Again, going to extra time, Stina [Blackstenius] scoring the winning goal and there were a lot of players involved in that journey, that trophy.
“We've looked back at it but again, everything that's happened in the past can inspire us but it says nothing about what we can do right now. Every trophy is important for us, also the League Cup.”

The tournament is undergoing changes next season, with teams that qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League group phase not eligible to take part in the League Cup.
“That's of course with the scheduling, there's decisions that have to be made and we'll see [how it goes],” our head coach added. “It depends on how things go in the Champions League of course.
“But I think there's always decisions to be made on sustainability, player health, but still as many games and competitions as possible because we want to grow the game, we want to connect with the supporters as much as possible.
“So I think it’s about finding the right balance and I think that's what other people are working with in the background.”
