Former Marquette Golden Eagles star Jimmy Butler suffers painful injury

Former Marquette Golden Eagles star Jimmy Butler suffered a brutal injury during the Golden State Warriors’ game Monday night at Chase Center in San Francisco, California, against the visiting Miami Heat.

ViaAnthony Slater of ESPN:

Golden State Warriors wing Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending torn right ACL in Monday night’s 135-112 win over the Miami Heat, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania, effectively throwing the future direction of the franchise into question.

Butler’s injury came at the 7:41 mark of the third quarter. He leaped to grab an entry pass in the middle of the paint and collided with Heat guard Davion Mitchell, and his right knee appeared to twist on the landing, sending him sprawling to the court in agony.

This is a big blow for the Warriors and puts Butler’s future with the team in question.

Butler wastraded by the Heat to Golden State before the February 2025 deadline and signed a two-year contract with the Dubs. He is due to earn $56.832 million in the 2026-27 NBA season, but whether he will be ready to see action by the start of that campaign is still too early to tell.

For now, Butler’s main focus is on recuperating from his knee injury, which probably is going to take longer time now that he is already 36 years old.

Butler played for three seasons in college for Marquette basketball, during which he averaged 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals through 106 games. He turned pro in 2011, when he was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the first round –30th overall — of that year’s NBA draft.
