The good news keeps coming for Tyrese Maxey. Fresh off being named an All-Star starter, it was announced that New Balance will debut Maxey’s first signature shoe later in 2026. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported:
For those who may not know, Maxey signed with New Balance a few years ago as the brand made its return to basketball after a long hiatus. Since then, New Balance has brought in several prominent NBA players, including Kawhi Leonard, Zach LaVine, Darius Garland, Cooper Flagg, Dejounte Murray and Jamal Murray. Up to this point, Leonard has been the only athlete with a signature shoe — but now, Maxey is next.
Maxey is a natural fit for a signature shoe. His game is built on speed, pressure and constant movement, which translates perfectly to a performance-first model, especially for guards who need something responsive night after night. Philadelphia is also a major market, and it’s easy to imagine Sixers fans fully buying into this release. Joel Embiid is the only long-term Sixer to previously have his own shoe, and that run came during Under Armor’s decline in basketball. Now Embiid is with Skechers, which, no offense, isn’t exactly the brand most basketball heads are lining up for when it’s time to buy sneakers.
From a design standpoint, it’ll be interesting to see what New Balance and Maxey come up with. The shoe will likely feature a lightweight build, proper cushioning and a low-cut design. Maxey has spent most of his time wearing the New Balance BB Hesi Low v2, a low-profile model, so it wouldn’t be surprising if his signature takes clear inspiration from the brand’s flagship basketball shoe.
Maxey has ascended into one of the league’s top players and will now be one of the faces of New Balance basketball. Based on Charania’s wording, it sounds like the development process is nearing completion, if it isn’t already. We won’t have to wait much longer to see what the first of what could be many signature shoes from Maxey looks like.
