‘Sooner Or Later’–Report Reveals Xabi Alonso’s Stance On Replacing Slot As Liverpool Manager

Xabi Alonso will become Liverpool manager “sooner or later”, according to reports in the Spanish media.

Madrid-based publication Marca have been assessing the Spaniard’s options following his sacking by Real earlier this month.

The Premier League is deemed his most likely destination, with the Reds the most “logical solution” as they are a team close to his heart.

Manchester United were mentioned too, but his historic association with the Merseyside club mean that such an appointment is deemed improbable.

Bayern Munich would be another possible landing spot, but Vincent Kompany is firmly entrenched as the club’s head coach at the moment.

Alonso is ready take the Liverpool job straight away

Marca claim that the 44-year-old is more likely to wait until the end of the season before taking up his next job.

However, if the opportunity arose before then to return to Anfield, they claim Alonso would seriously consider taking up the position straight away. He has replaced a manager mid-season before at Bayer Leverkusen, and he wouldn’t have any qualms about doing it again.

Ongoing doubts over the long-term future of Arne Slot have raised the prospect of that being a realistic scenario.

Is Slot’s position still safe?

At the moment, the Dutchman has the full backing of the Liverpool hierarchy, and that is not expected to change unless the Reds go on a catastrophic run of results.

There is a growing proportion of the fanbase who are unhappy with the team’s style of play under Slot, but those sentiments won’t play any role in whether to sack the head coach.

Alonso’s availability following his departure from Real does present an opening for the club to make a change in the dugout if they so wish, and he is unlikely to be obtainable for too long.
