Liverpool has confirmed its squad for the Champions League game against Marseille on Wednesday night.

Mohamed Salah has been included for the Reds after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt earlier this week. The Reds star has been missing since the win over Brighton at Anfield but will hope to play some part in the Champions League encounter.

There is no Ibrahima Konate though, with the Frenchman in his homeland to deal with a personal matter. There had been suggestions that he would link up with his teammates but that is not expected to be the case, with Konate not named in the traveling party.

Liverpool's players left John Lennon Airport on Tuesday, with Arne Slot due to speak to the media later in the day, to preview the game against Marseille.

The Reds are desperately short of defensive options, with Conor Bradley currently sidelined, alongside young defender Giovanni Leoni. UEFA rules also mean Calvin Ramsay cannot be added to the squad, as he was not registered at the start of the season.

Ramsey also does not qualify for the List B for the competition, as he is now over 21.

Liverpool currently sits in ninth place in the Champions League table, with four wins and two defeats from its six games so far. As things stand, Slot's men would require a playoff game to progress to the knockout stages.

The Reds take on Marseille on Wednesday night before ending the league phase at home to Qarabag next week, with a trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League in between.

Slot will be after a response following the disappointing draw with Burnley last weekend, as his side were dealt a blow in their push to finish in the Champions League places.

He said: "We are Liverpool and we play Burnley, who we have to give credit to how they defended, cleared balls off the line; all the things you want to see if you are a Burnley manager, players try to do everything that prevents us from scoring.

“But if we, as Liverpool, are not disappointed by having a draw against Burnley at home then something is completely wrong. I completely understand the frustration. I am the same and the players definitely have the same frustrations as the fans have."
