This Liverpool ace has his eye on a move away from Anfield this transfer window

Liverpool are considering their options this transfer window on both the arrival and departure front. The Reds are in need of defensive reinforcements but are now completely shut out from the Marc Guehi transfer saga, as he has committed to signing for Manchester City instead.

There have also been reports of players leaving Anfield this month. While the Reds are eager to sign new figures, they are also looking at where they can trim down their current squad both this window and during the summer.

Rhys Williams ‘keen’ to leave Liverpool this window

The Athletic has provided a round-up of updates on Premier League clubs’ transfer plans. In the latest Transfer DealSheet on Tuesday, it has been reported that forgotten centre-back Rhys Williams is ‘keen’ to leave Anfield this window on a loan deal.

The 24-year-old is out of contract this summer and he is set to leave the club as a free agent. Williams has not been part of Liverpool’s plans for years now and he hasn’t made a senior appearance since 2021.

He made the huge step up for Liverpool during their 2020/21 season injury crisis. Fitness issues tore through the squad and saw the Reds without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson during the same timeframe. Even Ozan Kabak picked up an injury towards the end of the season, forcing Williams and Nat Phillips to hold down the fort at centre-back.

The Athletic has reported that Williams is looking for a loan move until the end of the season, which will take him to the summer and the chance to make a permanent move to another club.

Will Liverpool sell any players this transfer window?

Despite the volume of rumours suggesting Liverpool could cash in on players like Federico Chiesa and even Mohamed Salah this window, they are not planning on sanctioning any senior exits at this midway point.

Liverpool have ‘no appetite’ to send Chiesa on loan to Juventus as they are ‘reluctant’ to weaken their squad. However, they may sanction deals for young players, or those completely out of favour like Williams.

Trent Kone-Doherty, Amara Nallo and Luke Chambers have all been mentioned as youngsters who could be considered for loan exits this month to give them valuable playing experience.

As for Trey Nyoni, Liverpool may need to rely on him as a rotational option in midfield, despite the rising interest in him from clubs in England across Europe.
