Wolves have been linked with a shock move for a Barcelona star that’s played Champions League football this season
Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly emerged as contenders to try and sign Barcelona youngster Marc Casadó this month.
The Old Gold are bottom of the Premier League with just one win in 22 matches but have shown huge signs of improvement in recent weeks which suggest they can still finish the season with a little bit of pride after going on a five-match unbeaten streak across all competitions.
Wolves have been in the top-flight since 2018 when they were promoted under Nuno Espirito Santo. Since rising to the big time they’ve been reliant on the services of Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has been a prominent figure at Molineux due to his ties with the football club.
Crucially, Casadó joined forces with agent Mendes in November last year, but what are the chances of him moving to the West Midlands?
Casadó linked with surprise January move to Wolves
Casadó, who has racked up 60 senior appearances for Barcelona since coming through the academy in 2022, has been linked with a surprise move to Wolves this month.
The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has played 19 times in total this season, including four times in the Champions League. However, he’s struggling for regular starts leading to speculation of a potential move.
The same outlet also reports that Manchester United are interested in Casadó along with La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid.
Casadó would be a top signing but it doesn’t seem realistic in this window - opinion
Casadó is reported by Football Fancast to be earning around £21k a week, which puts him well within Wolves budget. However, it’s not clear how highly Barcelona value him and whether the player is even interested in departing this month.
Attracting Casadó on a permanent basis seems unlikely given Wolves standing in the table. However, there could be slim hope of them attracting on loan in the run-up to the World Cup to give him regular football.
It’s likely to depend on where the two-time Spanish international sees his career, and whether there are offers elsewhere. It’s worth noting, however, that Hansi Flick is believed to rate him highly despite not giving him lots of minutes in recent months.
