Sheffield Wednesday youngster close to Chelsea switch with Man City and Man Utd among suitors

A host of Premier League clubs have been circling on the signing of Sheffield Wednesday youngster Yisa Alao in recent weeks.

Sheffield Wednesday youngster Yisa Alao is edging closer to a January transfer to Premier League giants Chelsea, The Star understands.

The talented 17-year-old has proven to be a bright spark in a difficult time for the Owls and made his maiden Championship start in a standout performance during defeat to Portsmouth over the weekend. A Wednesday academy figure, left-sided wing-back Alao has made five competitive appearances for the first team to date and is not on professional terms with the club.

The Star has reported over recent weeks that Alao has been of strong interest to a host of the country’s biggest clubs, with Manchester United and Liverpool among those understood to have tabled interest.

As things stand, it is believed that Chelsea are closing in on his signing, with Wednesday set to receive a high six-figure upfront fee. Discussion around the deal is understood to have taken a little longer than initially anticipated due to negotiation over hefty add-ons to be included in the deal.

It’s understood that the likes of Everton and Manchester City are among the clubs to have also shown interest in the youngster. News of Alao’s impending exit comes amid other potential outgoings at S6 - while efforts are also being made to bring in new loanee players after the additions of Murphy Cooper and Jaden Heskey last week. Skipper Barry Bannan’s future is in the balance amid his interest to a number of clubs including Millwall, while wider interest remains in the likes of Bailey Cadamarteri.

Teenager Alao has a short-term injury and so will not take part in this evening’s clash against Birmingham City.
