PSV Eindhoven boss Peter Bosz was full of praise for Newcastle United ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash.
The Dutch giants, who incredibly haven’t lost away from home since March last year, stunned the reigning Premier League champions by winning 4-1 at Anfield in November.
PSV sit 21st in the Champions League table and can leapfrog the Magpies in 12th with a victory at St James’ Park. A win for either side is likely to guarantee a play-off spot.
Finishing anywhere between 9th and 24th will secure a two-legged play-off game in February, with the winner advancing into the round of 16.
Peter Bosz comments on ‘phenomenal’ Newcastle United
Asked if he expects a more difficult match than Liverpool, Bosz said: “Yes, definitely. Because, as I said, it's a completely different style of play.”
Bosz then highlighted Newcastle’s recent 4-3 win over Leeds United, which saw Eddie Howe’s side score twice in stoppage time to snatch all three points in the Premier League.
He continued: “Actually, I would recommend the Dutch to watch the match against Newcastle v Leeds. The most beautiful match I've seen in the last 10 years. This is how football should be played and why you should watch football. And then you have to watch it for 110 minutes. It wasn't an extension. It took so long. This is football.”
On Newcastle, Bosz added: “With a lot of admiration. Of course, we played Liverpool, but this will be a completely different game than Liverpool.
“The physical strength they have is phenomenal. The length they have is phenomenal. The intensity with which they play, especially in this game, is phenomenal. It's going to be a challenge.
Eddie Howe previews Newcastle United v PSV Eindhoven
Newcastle could still finish inside the top eight and avoid a play-off with wins over PSV and Paris Saint-Germain in their final two matches.
“Yeah, it’d be nice,” Howe responded. “But I think that we just relish the games, the two games that we have to come. I think the best way to sort of answer that question is to try and win the next two games in front of us and starting with tomorrow’s game, which is a great game for us, a really magical game.
“Very good team. Been very impressed with all the research we’ve done on them and how they’ve been playing and their recent results. So it's set up to be a great game.”
