Opinion: What Enzo Fernandez did behind the scenes speaks volumes about his Chelsea future

Enzo Fernandez has been linked with a potential move away from Chelsea amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

It wouldn’t be a January transfer window without Chelsea being involved in some drama. The current saga revolves around a centre-back signing, with Jeremy Jacquet the man in question.

At first, it was claimed that Jacquet had a contract agreed with Chelsea and everything was going swimmingly, whereas now it’s being reported that he could even stay until the summer.

That’s not all, as there are even rumours suggesting he signs and gets sent back on loan to Rennes, which defeats the whole purpose of the Chelsea owners wanting a centre-back signed.

However, it’s not just incomings, as Enzo Fernandez is attracting some interest.

Paris Saint-Germain are sniffing around for Enzo Fernandez, despite accepting that any deal to bring the midfielder to France would be a difficult one.

But the important thing is that Enzo Fernandez seems to be fully committed to the cause at Chelsea.

Liam Rosenior was speaking in his pre-Pafos presser about the situation involving the Argentine, sharing the details of his incredible gesture.

“He was sick before the Brentford game but insisted he wanted to play. Being ill on your birthday and still wanting to play shows real dedication.”

The fact that he insisted on playing against Brentford shows that his heart and soul still belong to Chelsea. If he had checked out and his head wasn’t in it anymore, then he could have quite easily taken the easy option and sat out to recover and dwell on things.

Liam Rosenior spoke on the links between Paris Saint-Germain and Enzo Fernandez

The Chelsea boss addressed the links directly in his presser and reaffirmed his stance that Fernandez has an important role to play in his side.

“It means nothing to me.

“When you’re a world-class player, an outstanding player, there’s always going to be speculation that you can’t control. He’s been outstanding in the time I’ve worked with him.

“He’s even surprised me in a good way in terms of what he did on Saturday – to be ill and cover the ground that he did, the way that he’s trained and the way that he’s performed.

“He’s a Chelsea player. He’s very important to me. And I think we’re going to have a really, really good, hopefully winning relationship moving forward in the short term and the long term.”
