Dillon Jones and Obi Toppin of the Indiana Pacers fight for a rebound during the fourth quarter in Game Six of the 2025 NBA Finals. Jones has agreed to a two-way contract with the New York Knicks.

The New York Knicks added wing depth Tuesday, signing Dillon Jones to a two-way contract, according to SNY’s Ian Begley, as the team attempts to steady itself during a troubling midseason slide.

Jones, a 6-foot-5 wing, fills the two-way spot vacated by recently waived Tosan Evbuomwan. While the move is unlikely to impact New York’s immediate rotation, it reflects the organization’s effort to reinforce depth and flexibility amid mounting pressure in the Eastern Conference standings.

Knicks Add Dillon Jones Amid Four-Game Skid

The signing comes as the Knicks continue to struggle following a strong start to the season. After capturing the NBA Emirates Cup earlier this season, New York has fallen into a four-game losing streak and has dropped eight of its last 10 games, all four recent losses coming by double digits.

The slump has pushed the Knicks to third place in the Eastern Conference, just 1.5 games above the play-in line. Once viewed as one of the league’s most stable contenders, New York now faces questions about consistency, depth, and direction as the season enters a critical stretch.

Dillon Jones’ Winding Path Back to New York

Jones’ return to the Knicks organization comes after a circuitous journey. He was selected 26th overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2024 NBA Draft before his draft rights were dealt later that night to New York in exchange for the rights to Kyshawn George.

The Knicks then flipped Jones’ rights to the Oklahoma City Thunder for five future second-round draft picks, opting for long-term flexibility over player development.

Jones spent his rookie season with the Thunder during their championship run but struggled to find consistent minutes in a deep rotation. He appeared in 54 games, averaging 10.2 minutes per contest.

G League Resurgence Reopens NBA Door

Buried on Oklahoma City’s depth chart, Jones was later traded back to Washington in a salary-dump deal for Colby Jones and waived before the season began.

He resurfaced in the G League, where the South Bay Lakers selected him first overall in the G League Draft before immediately trading him to the Rip City Remix, the Portland Trail Blazers’ affiliate. There, Jones thrived with extended opportunity, averaging 16.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.8 steals in 37.5 minutes per game while shooting 43 percent from the field.

That production helped restore his value and ultimately earned him another NBA opportunity — this time with New York.

Two-Way Role and Limited Rotation Expectations

Jones joins Kevin McCullar Jr. and Trey Jemison as the Knicks’ two-way players. At 24 years old, he is not expected to play a significant role in head coach Mike Brown’s rotation and will likely spend most of his time with the Westchester Knicks.

Still, the move provides organizational depth as the Knicks evaluate options ahead of the trade deadline.

Knicks Trade Rumors Swirl Around Karl-Anthony Towns

The roster addition arrives amid growing trade chatter surrounding All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns, fueled by New York’s recent struggles. Newsday’s Steve Popper reported that Towns’ name has surfaced in discussions involving several teams, including Memphis, Orlando, and Charlotte.

However, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix pushed back strongly on that narrative.

“The Knicks are not looking to do a deal involving Karl-Anthony Towns,” Mannix said on the NBA on NBC podcast, adding that New York is not shopping any of its core players.

Despite reports of early friction between Towns and new head coach Mike Brown, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst previously noted that the relationship has stabilized.

For now, the Knicks appear committed to continuity at the top — while quietly addressing depth on the margins as the season’s pressure intensifies.
