Wizards a potential trade team for Zion Williamson, per report

Washington might serve as a potential next destination for the star big man "if the price is right" in a potential deal with New Orleans.

As they continue to build around their desired future, the Washington Wizards have been pegged as a potential team that could pursue Zion Williamson "if the price is right."

Yet in a potential deal, Josh Robbins of The Athletic revealed that the Wizards have plenty of considerations to weigh out of their priorities and the New Orleans Pelicans' trade desires.

"The Pelicans reportedly have told teams they’re not going to trade Williamson, Herb Jones, Trey Murphy III, Derik Queen or Jeremiah Fears. As it pertains to Williamson only, however, league sources expressed skepticism to The Athletic about that report," Robbins wrote.

"League sources said they cannot envision any scenario in which Washington would give up one of its own future first-round picks. But one source speculated that a pick owed to the Wizards, such as the least favorable of the Houston Rockets’ (top-four protected), LA Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder’s 2026 first-round picks, might satisfy the Pelicans’ goals.

"To be crystal clear: The Wizards trading for Williamson appears to be an extreme long shot. But it was mentioned as a possibility by enough league sources that it at least should be mentioned here."

The Wizards recently pulled the trigger by acquiring Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks. This trade served as a sign that the Wizards can commit to moves to accelerate their rebuild.

This 2025-26 season is the sixth campaign of Williamson for NOLA. It remains to be seen if he and the Pelicans will finally achieve something significant after the big man was drafted No. 1 overall in 2019.

Williamson appeared in 29 games so far this season, averaging 22.5 points, 5.8 boards and 3.5 assists. As the Pelicans found their newest long-term pieces in Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears, his future has to be monitored in New Orleans.
