Liverpool are 'expected to make a formal approach' for RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande in the coming months
Liverpool are ‘expected to make a formal approach’ for RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande in the coming months with the forward being eyed by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The Reds need a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah who has been taken out of the starting XI by Arne Slot and only has 18 months to run on his contract with the club.
It will be an incredibly-difficult task to replace the Egyptian, who has an astonishing 250 goals and 117 assists in 421 games for the club.
Diomande is viewed as somebody who could fill the boots of Salah and Caught Offside report that Liverpool are preparing a formal approach as they believe he is the “perfect” fit for the club’s system.
The report says that Paris Saint-Germain have scouted him while Arsenal have been tracking the player since 2024. Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United are all monitoring the situation.
Leipzig are widely reported to want between £69m - £78m for Diomande.
Red Bull chief Oliver Mintzlaff said recently: “As chairman of the supervisory board, I would say he will definitely be with us next season – even if there were an offer of €80m or €90m ( £69m - £78m).
The 19-year-old is regarded to have a high ceiling of potential and has fired in six goals and provided two assists in 16 Bundesliga games for Leipzig this campaign.
Diomande said: "I want to play at Anfield, I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big Liverpool fan. My father's dream is to see me play for Liverpool."
If Liverpool do make their move, they can expect competition from several of their Premier League and Champions League rivals. Bayern Munich could be the biggest threat to Liverpool in the race, as they are set to revisit the situation in the summer.
Their focus is strengthening their defence as they look to secure a new deal for Dayot Upamecano. They, like Liverpool, were interested in Marc Guehi before he made his move to Manchester City.
Bayern had been interested in Florian Wirtz during the summer but Liverpool managed to secure the German international’s signature. The Reds will hope for the same if they find themselves in a transfer battle for Diomande.
