Report: Chelsea'edging closer'to signing an exciting full-back

Chelsea are hard at work trying to bolster Liam Rosenior’s squad ahead of a busy schedule.

Supporters still await the first signing of the January transfer window in what was originally supposed to be a quiet month for Chelsea.

Three potential signings have been floated around: an attacker, a midfielder, and a centre-back, but it seems as if the latter is the priority right now.

Jeremy Jacquet is the frontrunner for the centre-back signing, with the Blues even going as far as agreeing a contract with the defender.

However, recent reports suggest that Chelsea may even loan Jacquet back to Rennes for the remainder of the season, which is totally mind-boggling.

But there may even be a new face through the door at Cobham before him.

Chelsea closing in on Sheffield Wednesday defender Yisa Alao

Chelsea’s model of buying young players and trying to turn them into superstars is still very much alive, and they could be about to make their latest addition.

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday wonderkid Yisa Alao is ‘edging closer’ to a transfer to Chelsea.

He had big interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Manchester City.

It’s stated that a deal is not done yet, but Owls are set to claim a ‘high six-figure’ upfront fee with add-ons from Chelsea.

Who is Yisa Alao?

Yisa Alao is a talented 17-year-old who has come out of nowhere to give Sheffield Wednesday fans something to shout about in the Championship.

He’s a left-sided wing-back and has made five competitive appearances for the first team to date, but the important thing is that he’s not on professional terms yet.

This technically makes it easier for Chelsea to sign him for a more reasonable fee.

Whilst he probably won’t go straight into the first team at Chelsea, it’s another promising player who can hopefully play a part in the future of the club. Or just end up at Strasbourg.
