Petr Cech shares what the first thing he would do if he became the owner of Chelsea tomorrow

The position of owning Chelsea Football Club is one many people are envious of, and believe they would do a better job if in that scenario.

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have frequently come under fire for the direction they are taking Chelsea in, and things reached boiling point for some on Saturday at Stamford Bridge against Brentford.

Blues fans protested before the 2-0 win in the London derby, with chants for Enzo Maresca being heard despite Liam Rosenior being in the early days of his tenure.

Some of the controversial changes which took place at the start of new owners’ tenure saw a number of key figures at the club depart, including Petr Cech, who was Technical and Performance Director.

How Petr Cech would run Chelsea if he were the club’s owner

Cech admitted the decision was his to leave, however has now been asked how he would’ve spent the amount of money Boehly and co have splashed since taking over at Stamford Bridge.

Cech told Business of Sport: “First, I would sit six months and watch, because I would love to know what is now set up, how things work. I think it’s a simple thing.

“Because you know, I give you a question. If I give you a soup and you had the pepper and salt, what do you do? You bring the soup, take the pepper and salt, put it in, mix it, and then you eat it? Or first you eat it and then you realise, it’s missing a bit of salt, then you put in the salt.

“You can choose, you can actually say, okay, I don’t care what’s there and I do it my way and then you can actually ruin it.

“Or you sit down and you say, okay, I sit down, I watch, I see what’s working, what’s not working, I make my point and then I will fix what I think it needs to be fixed and I keep what I think is working. And obviously that would be my first thing. Look, observe, see, and then try to improve what you think is there to improve.”

Chelsea need to listen to Cech’s advice

The Chelsea of 2023/24 compared to now is very, very different. It would be unlikely the Blues would ever pay the fees they spent on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo again.

Who would you like to see replace Enzo Fernandez if he leaves Chelsea this summer?

However, one thing the Blues need to do is analyse where their current project is going wrong, and learn where they need to improve what they are doing.

It has become clear that Chelsea need to add some experienced players to their squad. Struggles in tough atmospheres such as Leeds and Atalanta have proven this.

Despite that, January transfer targets such as Jeremy Jacquet have proven that they are not prepared to steer away from what their mantra is right now, despite calls for change from supporters.
