It now"looks like"Champions League-winning Liverpool legend is"leaving"this summer

**Liverpool legend Andy Robertson is likely to leave the club in the summer transfer window, with a return to Celtic potentially on the cards.**

The 31-year-old has been a magnificent player for the Reds since joining from Hull City in 2017, winning the Champions League and Premier League, among other trophies.

Robertson has lost his regular left-back starting spot to Milos Kerkez this summer, however, and he could depart Liverpool on a free transfer this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

Speaking to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/celtic-set-sights-on-andy-robertson-as-liverpool-transfer-edges-closer/), former scout Mick Brown backed the Scot to move on to pastures new, backing him to return to his homeland and sign for Celtic:

_“It looks like Robertson will be leaving Liverpool. Liverpool seem to have accepted that they’ve had the best of him and now is the time to move on, with Kerkez obviously brought in for that reason. I could see him making the return to Scotland, it makes sense at this point in his career._

_“He would be a great player for Celtic, who I expect are keeping a close eye on things in case he does become available and they can bring him in. I don’t think a new left-back is a priority there, but if a player like him becomes available and he would be open to the move, they can’t ignore it._

_“They won’t be the only ones interested though and they’ll probably have to battle with European clubs if they want to bring him in. But he’s a player who would do well for Celtic and do well in Scotland, and maybe the chance to go back to his home country will appeal to him.”_

**Could Liverpool do with a few more years of Robertson?**

----------------------------------------------------------

Robertson clearly isn’t the world-class left-back he was at his absolute peak, but there are still plenty of reasons why Liverpool would want to keep him beyond the summer.

He still has the quality to be a good option for the Reds, not to mention a winning mentality that has shone through so many times down the years.

Robertson may not like the idea of warming the substitutes’ bench most weeks, however, and few Liverpool fans would begrudge him a move to Celtic to finish his career, or a switch elsewhere.

If he does depart, he will be remembered as possibly the Reds’ best-ever left-back, but a short-term contract extension certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing.
