Norwich City facing fresh transfer fear involving Man City

Norwich City’s hopes of signing Kasper Høgh could take a further hit following his impressive brace against Manchester City on Tuesday evening.

The Canaries have been linked with an ambitious bid to sign the 25-year-old this January, as Philippe Clement looks to bolster his attacking options.

The forward has enjoyed two strong campaigns with Bodo/Glimt, and has been a key part of their qualification for the Champions League.

He’s scored a total of 29 goals from 51 appearances in the Norwegian top flight, with Kjetil Knutsen’s side winning the title in 2024.

And Tuesday night’s historic victory against the Premier League team has put his name on the football map, as he bagged two goals in the first win for a club from Norway in the European Cup in almost 20 years.

It was Høgh’s quick brace in the first half that proved crucial to their 3-1 win, which has also kept their hopes of qualifying for the play-offs alive going into the final round of fixtures.

Someone of Høgh’s quality could be an extremely positive addition to the Norwich squad this winter, especially given the speculation surrounding Josh Sargent’s future.

The Canaries are in need of attacking reinforcements if they are to survive in the Championship, with the club at risk of relegation this term.

The Bodo/Glimt striker showed just what he can bring to Carrow Road on Tuesday night, scoring twice against one of Europe’s elite sides.

He proved that he has what it takes to compete against a Premier League calibre defence, but that could prove a bigger problem for the Championship side.

There is no doubt that Høgh’s gained a lot of attention with his exploits, which could trigger interest from a number of other sides in the transfer market.

It was already an ambitious target for the club to have, but now Bodo/Glimt may even feel emboldened to increase their asking price for the 25-year-old.

The Dane’s goals also kept the Eliteserien team’s hopes of remaining in the Champions League alive, which gives them further incentive to want to keep someone of his quality around.

So not only could competition increase for Høgh following his impressive display on such a big stage, but now it could also cost Norwich a lot more just to get a deal over the line before 2 February.

Høgh’s exploits will also have Norwich fans excited about the prospect of the forward joining their side before the market shuts.

It remains to be seen how much a deal will cost, but the speculation surrounding Sargent’s future will be a major concern for the club.

But if the Canaries are able to secure a replacement of this calibre for him straight away, then that would soften the blow of losing a crucial first team star.

Of course, fans would ideally prefer to see the pair of them play together at Carrow Road, but that may not be feasible now.

The Norfolk outfit may have put five past West Brom at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night, but goals have generally proved hard to come by this term, having scored 30 from their previous 27 fixtures in the league.

If they are to survive against relegation, then scoring more consistently will be crucial and the addition of Høgh could be exactly what’s needed.

Norwich will just be hoping that his exciting performance against Man City doesn’t work against their pursuit of the forward.
